"Just Married, Pl Excuse" By Yashodhra Lal- Book Review

She was selling detergents & soaps and he, making brilliant strategies sitting from his plush office, chasing female prospects away* with his discerning looks & baffling questions (all mischievously planned, poker faced executed)

Twain met and how? Well “how” is not as significant here as “What happened next” and next and next.

Yashodhra Lal’s debut book- Just Married, Pl excuse” is a “caution” story of her “bumpy ride” marriage with Vijay and their road ahead.

The book is a humorous interpretation of story of V and Y, two people poles apart, yet makes a beautiful to look at and interesting to read at couple. With Yash as independent thinking, domestically challenged, high temper yet full of life girl meeting Vijay, rooted to his traditions, Aloo Gobhi loving, head over heels in love with this muse, sparks were sure to fly. To add more tadka, they have characters like- Zareena, Vinod, Vivi and off course their respective families.

It gets very embarrassing post marriages but wait, Yash with her heartwarming writing turns everything funny & amusing. Whether it is learning how to drive, buying a land, color coordinated curtains with sofa amongst 

others; Yash has narrative that makes you hooked to the book and keep reading!

I loved the way she characterized her husband (poor soul). Vijay has been a darling throughout the book. Yeah yea Yash made the sweet chap look funny or rather henpecked. Vijay braves Yash bravely 7 sternly and wow to his sportsmanship (or shall I assume he haven’t read her book). Don’t miss the chapter on his home made concoction and their first date with ducks.

And after all that she still doesn’t spare the poor chap even on their wedding day by comparing who is taller! Freakishingly tall comparison!!!

Yash v/s other Indian authors- Well I don’t mind reading Indian authors and Chetan Bhagat still remains my favorite as he does a good justice to the purpose. Yeah yeah, I am not counting Revolution 2020 into this. From whatever ltd Indian authors who I have read so far (incl numerous books that I left after first 2-10 pages), I liked Yash’ book more. Her writing is smooth and very much readable.  High on humor quotient, High on readability. Her’ was a book that I found myself hooked for page after page. This was kind of book I was looking for after hard day of emotional atyachar at office/ home, to bring myself some laugh without straining much thinking.

The topic she has chosen may seem very mundane and “run around mill” to write but what the heck as long as she does a good job doing it. After a while you may find it repetitive and bit exaggerated but its fine to give a lee away to author who is trying to attract multiple kinds of people to her book.

Yashodhra's narrative becomes that of Geet in Jab we met (influence or coincidence, she has to decide). After a point you start wondering ki if there’s a situation like this how would Yash have reacted.

I have kind of become an unofficial distributor of this book. I found it as perfect wedding gift that I can gift to educated lot in my circle and outside it.

One regret- The cover page could have been more real with Y & V as caricatures post their wedding on the yellow car. Ah that’s the attention to details that I give and yet still liked this book.
